The route from St. Anton to Lech in winter and summer
The road from St. Anton to Lech goes over the Arlberg Pass (1,793 m) and the Flexen Pass (1,773 m), passing St. Christoph, Alpe Rauz and Zürs am Arlberg. Lech and Zürs share one ski area, Lech Zürs am Arlberg, in Vorarlberg, Austria – linked with St. Anton through the Ski Arlberg lifts. It is the main road to Lech from the Tyrolean side of the Arlberg: a spectacular high-Alpine route that needs winter experience. In winter, snow, ice and changing mountain weather make the journey more demanding than an ordinary transfer – our experienced Alpine drivers drive it every day and know it in all winter and mountain conditions. Travel with confidence and peace of mind through the Arlberg.
Is the road to Lech open in winter?
Yes, the Flexen Pass road is cleared and kept open in winter. On rare days with heavy snow or high avalanche danger, the authorities can close it for a few hours. If that happens, we watch the road status, call you and drive as soon as it reopens. Driving times on this page are approximate, not guaranteed.
Winter-ready 4×4 taxis for Alpine roads
Taxi Anton drives modern, all-wheel-drive VW Caravelle 4Motion and Mercedes Vito 4MATIC vehicles, all with winter tyres and snow chains – and premium comfort inside: leather seats, Wi-Fi, air conditioning and ample space for skis and luggage – comfortable winter travel all the way to Lech. Our drivers live on the Arlberg and drive between St. Anton, St. Christoph, Stuben, Zürs and Lech every day, so you don’t have to drive a snowy pass in a rental car – and you arrive safely, even in difficult mountain conditions.
Taxi to Oberlech
In winter, most Oberlech guests go up with the Oberlechbahn cable car: we drop you right at the entrance of the valley station in Lech. On busy days, such as Saturdays, we use the Anger Garage opposite and drive into the underground drop-off level beneath the valley station, so we don’t block the road: your luggage goes onto a trolley, the lift staff take it up with the cable car, and it waits for you at the top station. Some hotels are reached through the tunnels from the Umschlaghalle, and for the few hotels and guesthouses at the end of the road above the Umschlaghalle, the taxi drives all the way up. Ask your hotel’s reception – we take you wherever they recommend.

The Flexen Pass road is open in summer too, and Taxi Anton drives the St. Anton to Lech transfer all year. In summer, Lech am Arlberg is a quiet mountain village and a great base for hiking, mountain biking and long Alpine walks. We take you from St. Anton station or your accommodation in St. Anton directly to your hotel in Lech – or bring hikers to the starting point of their next Alpine adventure and collect them at the end of the day. What to Do in Lech: Skiing, Après-Ski & Dining
Lech am Arlberg is one of the best-known ski resorts in the Alps. Together with Zürs, Zug and Oberlech it forms the Lech Zürs ski area, and through the Flexenbahn it is linked with Stuben, St. Christoph and St. Anton in the Ski Arlberg area. The classic ski circuit Der Weiße Ring starts and ends in Lech.
Lech is a great choice for a relaxed ski day. It is known for its wide, well-groomed runs, its quiet village centre on the river Lech and its many fine restaurants and hotels. Après-ski is calmer than in St. Anton – many guests ski in Lech by day and come back to St. Anton for the evening, or the other way round. Oberlech, above the village, is car-free in winter and reached by the Oberlechbahn cable car.
Whatever you plan, your transfer between St. Anton and Lech is only 20–25 minutes – at any time of day.
How to get from St. Anton am Arlberg to Lech: All Options
You can travel by taxi, public bus, your own car or, during lift hours, on skis. Which of these options suits you best depends on your luggage, the time of day and the size of your group.
St. Anton to Lech by taxi
The fastest and most direct way: a reliable private transfer from your door in St. Anton to your door in Lech in about 20–25 minutes, at any time of day or night, with luggage and skis included – €81 per car for up to 8 people.
St. Anton to Lech by bus
Public buses connect St. Anton and Lech in the ski season, with fixed stops and a limited timetable, so there is little flexibility. That works for a single traveller with light luggage, but it is harder with suitcases, children or late in the evening. With luggage or kids, skip the bus and shuttles and take a taxi to Lech.
St. Anton to Lech by car
If you drive yourself, the road goes over the Arlberg and Flexen Pass: you need winter tyres, snow chains and experience on mountain roads, and parking in Lech is limited. Many guests prefer to leave the car and the snowy pass to us for a stress-free trip.
On skis with the Flexenbahn
During lift hours you can ski from St. Anton to Lech on a Ski Arlberg pass, with the Flexenbahn linking Alpe Rauz and Zürs. It only works without luggage and while the lifts are open.
| Taxi | Public bus | Skiing over (Flexenbahn) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Door to door | ✅ Yes | ❌ Fixed stops | ❌ No |
| With luggage | ✅ Easy | ⚠️ Difficult | ❌ No |
| Evening / night | ✅ 24/7 | ⚠️ Limited timetable | ❌ Lifts closed |
| Price for 4 people | €81 total | Ticket per person | Included in Ski Arlberg pass |
| Best for | Arrivals, hotel changes, dinners, groups | Single travellers on a budget | Skiers, during lift hours only |
Our honest advice: in the daytime, with just your skis, ski over on the Ski Arlberg lifts. With luggage, in the evening, for dinner in Lech or as a group, take a taxi – for 4 or more people it is also the most cost-effective option.
A reliable private transfer between two Arlberg ski resorts, with experienced local drivers, winter-ready 4×4 vehicles and direct door-to-door service. Travel comfortably through the Arlberg in winter, with skis and luggage included and a smooth, hassle-free journey from St. Anton to Lech. Spend less time thinking about transport and more time skiing, dining, celebrating and enjoying your holiday. More holiday, less time at bus stops.
