Zurich Airport – an important international gateway to Lech
For many international visitors travelling to Lech am Arlberg, Zurich Airport is one of the most practical major airports in the region.
Zurich offers a broad selection of scheduled European and intercontinental flights, making it a popular choice when smaller regional airports do not provide a suitable connection.
The journey from Zurich to Lech crosses eastern Switzerland and Vorarlberg before entering the Arlberg region and continuing towards Zürs and Lech.
Unlike St. Anton, Lech has no railway station, so the final part of the journey always requires road transport. A private taxi takes you directly from Zurich Airport to your hotel or chalet in Lech without changing trains, buses or handling ski equipment several times.
About Lech am Arlberg
For guests arriving from Zurich, Lech is the final stop of a journey across the Alps. Lech am Arlberg is one of Austria’s most prestigious Alpine resorts and part of the Ski Arlberg area, known for excellent skiing, high-quality hotels and chalets, a traditional village centre and reliable snow.
Unlike St. Anton, Lech has no railway station, so the last part of every journey is by road – over the Flexen Pass. A private transfer from Zurich Airport takes you straight there, without changing trains or waiting for a shuttle.
Meet & greet at Zurich Airport
Send us your flight number when you book. Your pickup then follows the actual arrival time, not only the timetable.
Once you have collected your luggage, your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall with your name on a sign. Before pickup we send you the driver’s name and phone number, so you know exactly who to look for before you land.
Your airport pickup includes:
- Flight monitoring
- Meet & greet with a personal name sign
- Luggage assistance
- Direct transfer to your accommodation in Lech
No taxi rank, no shuttle desk, no search through the car park after a long flight.
Delayed flight? No problem.
We monitor your flight and adjust your pickup to the actual arrival time. After landing we wait up to 60 minutes at no extra cost – you do not need to call us from the plane, and a late arrival does not change your fixed price.
The route from Zurich Airport to Lech
We do not drive via St. Anton. On most days we go east past Winterthur and St. Gallen, cross into Austria at Diepoldsau and follow the Rhine valley and the Klostertal past Feldkirch and Bludenz to Langen am Arlberg. There we leave the main road and climb through Stuben and over the Flexen Pass to Zürs and Lech. Going through the Arlberg tunnel to St. Anton and back over the Arlberg Pass would only add a long detour.
When Google Maps shows it is quicker on the day, we take the A3 along the Walensee instead, past Sargans and up the Swiss A13, crossing into Austria at Feldkirch.
The Flexen Pass road is cleared and kept open in winter. Snowfall, weekend ski traffic and changing mountain weather can make the drive longer, and our experienced local drivers plan it around the conditions on the day. Travel with confidence and peace of mind from Zurich Airport to Lech.
What if the Flexen Pass is closed?
It happens rarely – only on days with very high avalanche danger, sometimes for a few hours, sometimes until the next morning. In winter the Flexen Pass is the only road into Lech, so we watch the road status and call you before you land. In practice, hotels in Lech and Zürs usually find their guests a room for the night elsewhere on the Arlberg; we drive you there and agree the onward journey to Lech with you as soon as the road reopens.
Drop-off in Lech, Zug and Oberlech
We drive you to the door of your hotel, chalet or apartment in Lech or Zug. Most Oberlech guests go up with the Oberlechbahn cable car: we drop you at the valley station in Lech, and on busy days, such as Saturdays, we use the drop-off level beneath it in the Anger Garage. Your luggage goes onto a trolley, the lift staff take it up with the cable car, and it waits for you at the top station. Ask your hotel’s reception – we take you wherever they recommend.
What is the best way to get from Zurich Airport to Lech?
For families, groups and skiers, the easiest way is a private taxi: about 2 h 15 min, straight to your hotel, from €460 per car. By public transport, Lech is a longer trip, because there is no railway station in the village.
| Taxi | Train + bus | Rental car | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Door to door | ✅ Airport to your hotel | ❌ Station, then bus up to Lech | ⚠️ You drive yourself |
| Changes | ✅ None | ⚠️ Usually one or more, then Langen or St. Anton | ✅ None |
| With skis and suitcases | ✅ Easy | ⚠️ Carrying bags between train and bus | ⚠️ Needs a big car |
| Late or delayed flight | ✅ We track your flight | ⚠️ Fixed timetable | ✅ Yes |
| Flexen Pass in winter | ✅ Local driver, 4×4, chains | ✅ No driving | ⚠️ You drive the mountain pass |
| Best for | Families, groups, ski luggage, late arrivals | Single travellers with light luggage | Travellers who need a car all week |
Our honest advice: alone with a small bag and plenty of time, the train and bus will get you there; with family, skis or a late flight, take the taxi.
How do I get from Zurich Airport to Lech without a taxi?
By train or by shared shuttle: the train, with one or more changes, to Langen am Arlberg or St. Anton and then a bus up to Lech (around CHF 61–110 per person plus the bus), or the Arlberg Express shared shuttle (around €65 per person).
By train: The railway station is right at the airport, with many trains a day towards the Arlberg. Most connections need one or more changes – for example in Zürich HB, Buchs SG, St. Margrethen, Feldkirch or Bludenz, depending on the train – and the whole journey can take up to around 3½ hours. Train fares are roughly CHF 61 to CHF 110 per person, depending on the connection, the ticket and where you buy it; check the SBB or ÖBB timetable for your flight time. For Lech, get off at Langen am Arlberg – if your train stops there; some trains stop only at St. Anton. From the station, the last part over the Flexen Pass is by bus or taxi.
By shared shuttle: In winter, the Arlberg Express shared shuttle runs from Zurich Airport to the Arlberg villages, including Lech, for around €65 per person; the drive takes about 3 to 3½ hours, depending on the stop. Because one run serves several villages – with stops such as Hohenems, Bludenz and Stuben on the way – it takes longer than a direct transfer. It follows a fixed timetable rather than your flight and drops you at set stops in the village, not at your hotel – check the operator’s website for current departures and fares.
Coming by train? We pick you up at the station. Call us on +43 664 930 66 26, send a WhatsApp message or use the booking form – your driver waits at Langen or St. Anton station and takes you straight to your hotel in Lech. More on our railway station transfers.
By private taxi: no train changes, no fixed departure time, no carrying skis between platforms and no extra bus or taxi at the end – from the arrivals hall straight to your hotel door. Your group. Your vehicle. Airport to hotel, door to door.
Train and shuttle fares are approximate (winter 2026/27) and set by the operators.
What about a rental car?
A rental car makes sense if you want to tour the region – for a ski week in Lech it mostly stays parked. After heavy snowfall spaces are scarce, many hotels have only a few, and garages and paid car parks in Lech and St. Anton are expensive. Add snowy or icy roads over the Arlberg and the Flexen Pass, snow chains at the roadside and, for UK and Irish drivers, driving on the right.
No parking. No snow chains. No unfamiliar winter roads – just a direct transfer to your door.
Skis, snowboards, luggage and child seats
Skis, snowboards, ski boots and normal holiday luggage travel free – every car has room for winter equipment. Tell us how many suitcases and ski bags you have so we send the right vehicle. Child seats and boosters are free on request: tell us the children’s ages when you book.

Winter-ready 4×4 vehicles
We drive the Zurich–Lech route in a VW Caravelle 4Motion or a Mercedes Vito 4MATIC – both all-wheel drive, with winter tyres and snow chains, leather seats, Wi-Fi, air conditioning and room for up to 8 passengers with luggage. Exactly what the last 15 km over the Flexen Pass need in winter.
