Altenrhein or St. Gallen – the same airport

The airport is officially Airport St. Gallen–Altenrhein (code ACH). It stands at Altenrhein on the Swiss shore of Lake Constance and is named after the city of St. Gallen, about twenty kilometres inland. If your ticket says St. Gallen, it is the same airport and the same arrivals hall.

After Innsbruck, Altenrhein is the closest airport to the Arlberg: about 110 kilometres, almost level with Innsbruck. It sits where the Rhine flows into Lake Constance – right at the entrance of the valley the drive follows anyway.

The route from Altenrhein Airport to St. Anton

From Airport St. Gallen–Altenrhein the road runs through St. Margrethen to the Rhine. At Höchst we cross the Rhine and with it the border from Switzerland into Austria – only a few minutes after setting off.

After that the route joins the A14, passes Bregenz on the south side and follows the Rhine valley past Dornbirn and Feldkirch to Bludenz. There it turns onto the S16 and climbs through the Klostertal, past Wald am Arlberg and Klösterle, to Langen am Arlberg.

At Langen we drive through the Arlberg road tunnel – fourteen kilometres under the pass, with the toll included in your fixed price. On the Tyrolean side, St. Anton is a short distance beyond the portal. No mountain pass is crossed at any point, which is why this route is reliable in winter.

Conditions change along the way: the Rhine valley can be dry while the Klostertal is already under snow. The roads we use are main roads, cleared early and driven all winter.

The Switzerland–Austria border

Switzerland and Austria are both in the Schengen area, so passport checks are not the rule at this border. Switzerland, however, is not in the EU customs union – a customs check is possible. Keep the identity document you flew with within reach.

Everything else is on us: both vignettes and the Arlberg tunnel toll are included in the fixed price. You stay seated, and your luggage is not moved once between the arrivals hall and your accommodation.

Pickup at Altenrhein Airport

Your driver waits for you in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign. Altenrhein is the smallest airport we drive from: a single hall with the car parks directly in front – just a few steps to the vehicle.

We track the flight number you give us when booking. If your flight lands late, the pickup moves with it – at no extra charge and without you having to call.

In St. Anton we take you right to your accommodation, whichever part of the village it is in – Nasserein, Oberdorf, Stadle, Moos or St. Jakob. With luggage we are allowed into the pedestrian zone. On request we stop at the ski rental shop on the way.

Our vehicles for the Altenrhein – St. Anton transfer

Both vehicles are four-wheel drive, with winter tyres from November to April and snow chains on board all season. Skis and snowboards travel outside on the rear rack – nobody spends the drive with a ski bag on their knees. Child seats are fitted free of charge; just tell us the children’s ages.

Return transfer from St. Anton to Altenrhein Airport

For a flight from Altenrhein we collect you in St. Anton three and a half hours before departure. That already covers the drive, the border and your time at the airport. The return costs the same as the way in: from €300 per vehicle, vignettes and ski luggage included – at any hour, including before daylight.
